Hampton Downs, September 29th will be see battle re commence for the second year of the highly successful Hyosung GT250R Cup. In association with the Auckland Motorcycle Club and with the support our new principle sponsor WIL Sport Management the Hyosung Cup riders will go after $10,000 prize money over 5 rounds and 10 races at Hampton Downs and Pukekohe. Thirty riders have registered to compete in what is the closest and most competitive road racing seen for years in New Zealand.

The WIL Sport Hyosung GT250R Cup is also proudly backed by Hyosung Motorcycles, MTF Barrys Point Road, Barnes Jenkins, Screaming Demon, Road Guide, Kolorinn Kustoms plus new sponsors Regina, Unit II and Lams.co.nz. “Croz” is back as Cup patron also, one of New Zealands most successful road racers with a wealth of knowledge about our sport.

We see the return of the reigning champion Daniel Mettam on a 2012 model Delphi EFi GT250R who has teamed up with Connor Le Cheminant in the bright yellow DHL Door to More Team. Also back for more 250 proddy fun is last years third place rider Nathanael Diprose along with Beau Dobson, Haydn Hutchinson, Connor London, Todd Nenov, Aidan Dorr and of course Hyosung sales manager Fergus Maynes, Don’t count out the other 25 riders who will all step up from last year and with some new blood like Jason Cameron and Mandy New we anticipate a feast of close and skilful racing.

The race 2 Le Mans start will again be a feature and is a test of sprinting and composure to get underway and to the first corner first. Not only will prize money be paid down to 10th place but new prizes offered are trophies for the Barnes Jenkins Super Pole, Lams.co.nz Fastest Lap and the MTF Spirit of the Cup. The overall Champion will receive an all new and coveted “WIL Sport Hyosung GT250R Cup”. The recipient of this trophy on April 7 2013 will have shown extreme corner speed, good starting skills, expert race craft and of course a top finishing record. This is no easy Championship to win.

Although the rules are only draft at the moment we will see the return of 250cc Production Racing this road race season. Extremely popular in years gone by and the starting platform for some of our best racers this new class for 250cc 4 stroke twins is a great opportunity for young riders to get into road racing for minimal outlay.
